Biography

Waseem Ahangar, M.D. brings dedication and empathy to his role as a board-certified pulmonary and critical care physician. In his current position as a pulmonary medicine/critical care physician, he treats adult and senior patients for a wide range of lung and respiratory diseases. He cares for patients in his office and hospital settings.

Dr. Ahangar earned his medical degree (MBBS) from Government Medical College, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India; he completed his clinical electives at Mount Sinai Hospital’s Departments of Pulmonary Medicine and Cardiology Medicine in New York City. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby, PA, and his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to joining the ChristianaCare team, Dr. Ahangar worked as an attending critical care medicine physician and pulmonary disease doctor in both inpatient and outpatient settings in North Carolina, New York, and the greater Philadelphia area.

A member of the American College of Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Chest Physicians, Dr. Ahangar is excited to join the ChristianaCare team as a pulmonary medicine/critical care physician. He is fluent in Kashmiri, Urdu, and Hindi.

Biography

Sam V. Thomas, D.O. brings dedication and compassion to his role as a board-certified pulmonologist. In his current position as a pulmonologist and pulmonary intensivist, he sees adults in his office and the hospital to evaluate and improve their lung function. Dr. Thomas offers expertise in diagnosing and treating various conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary vascular disease, and obstructive sleep apnea. In the intensive care unit (ICU), he treats patients for a wide range of critical conditions to support their recovery. Dr. Thomas holds a deep-rooted connection to the tristate area as someone raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Dr. Thomas completed his undergraduate studies at Temple University before pursuing medical school at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, AL, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Jefferson Health New Jersey in Stratford, where he served as chief intern, followed by a pulmonary/critical care fellowship at Jefferson Health NJ in Washington Township.

Dr. Thomas is excited to contribute to the healthcare of the Delaware and northern Maryland communities as a member of the ChristianaCare team. He is currently a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Thoracic Society. Outside of medicine, Dr. Thomas enjoys cooking, photography, and traveling with his wife, always eager to explore new destinations.

Biography

Cheng Zhou, M.D. brings dedication and patience to her role as a board-certified pulmonary and critical care physician with additional specialization in pediatrics. In her current position as a pulmonary intensivist, she treats adult and senior patients for a wide range of critical conditions as they recover in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Dr. Zhou earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. She completed a combined internal medicine-pediatrics residency at Case Western Reserve University MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, OH and a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, where she also rotated at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction, VT.

A member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians, Dr. Zhou is excited to join the ChristianaCare team as a pulmonary intensivist. She is fluent in Mandarin.
