Volunteer

At Union Hospital, our volunteers are an important part of all that we do. All ages—from teens to retirees—participate. Their energy, spirit and special talents help us provide even more personal service to patients. We’re always interested in having new volunteers join our active group. You can give whatever time you have available, full-time or part-time. You can even decide where you want to work in the hospital—or you may prefer to get involved in activities and services throughout the community, like participating in fundraising events.

How important are Union Hospital volunteers?

Volunteers play a vital role in helping Union Hospital meet the health and wellness needs of our community in collaboration with other providers and ensure that services reflect high quality, compassion and value.

Why should I volunteer?

Receiving the personal satisfaction of helping others, making new friends, learning new skills, exploring a career and staying up-to-date with the changes in providing health care are just a few of the rewards you will discover as a volunteer.

Will I receive training?

Training is an integral part of your volunteer experience. In addition to a general orientation to familiarize you with the responsibilities and benefits of volunteering for Union Hospital, you will receive either specialized training or on-the-job training. Volunteers are also required to participate in annual in-service training.

Will I qualify?

You must be at least 18 years of age (and have completed the eighth grade). Applicants should be dependable, responsible, friendly and willing to make a firm commitment to at least 100 hours of volunteer service per year and adhere to the policies and procedures of Union Hospital.

How do I apply to be a volunteer?

You may receive an application and a current opportunities list by calling the Volunteer Services Department at 410-392-7019 or download an application. (Once you print the application, please complete it and submit it by mail to the address below or deliver it in person.) You will also need to make an appointment for an interview. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

What is the hospital auxiliary?

The Hospital Auxiliary is an active organization dedicated to supporting Union Hospital. The Auxilians operate the Gift Shop, the Good As New Shop (a Thrift Store), and the vending machines. The Auxilians also raise significant funds for the hospital and give volunteer services to patients, families and staff of Union Hospital.
